Ages 14-adult

No Experience Necessary!

Etching is a simple, low-tech, and low-cost way to add design and texture to metal. In this fun class, you’ll create several etched plates  to use in jewelry fabrication, enameling, and embossing. This class will cover various methods of preparing and applying your design to the metal, including etching with hand drawn, stamped and PnP Blue transfer images or text. Then we’ll cover many facets of the art of etching jewelry, including the difference in setups for silver and base metals, uses of the technique, tips for successful etching, and how to create an etching set up for the home studio. Students will etch several plates in their choice of silver, brass, and/or copper. You’ll use your etchings to make at least one piece of jewelry, and have plates left to incorporate in your own designs later.

Cost of class includes chemicals, use of etching setup and tools, and handout. Students supply their own metals or purchase from Creator Haven during class.  Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a few stains on, or bring an apron!
