Learn simple and safe techniques for chemically etching copper for fabrication, enameling, and embossing. This class will cover various methods of ornamenting the metal, including etching with hand drawn, stamped and photo copied images or text. In this one day workshop, we will cover many facets of the art of etching jewelry, including how to prepare your art for etching, uses of the technique, and how to create an etching set up for the home studio. While waiting for our pieces to etch in the chemical bath, we’ll learn to use the rolling mill as another way to add texture to metal. If you have black and white designs of your own creation, or copied from clip art, bring them with you. We will also have a supply of copyright-free designs for you to select from. A materials fee of $20 collected in class will provide chemicals, PNP paper, rubber stamps and stamp pads, photocopies, copper, and rolling mill textures.
