Making a drop fused vessel is a multi-step process. The first step is to make any elements needed for the design. This might include cutting shapes from sheet glass, pulling twisted cane, fusing and slicing pattern bars or other fabrication processes. Elements are assembled and fused into a thick glass slab. The slab is then suspended on a ceramic form having a hole in the middle and heated in the kiln until the center drops through that hole and touches down on the kiln shelf below. Once cool the rim is cut off or cut to shape and the top of the vessel ground and polished.
